Come visit me at my new site: I am now here!

Tuesday, November 30, 2004

Okay...today I'll try and jam in everything I kind of wanted to post over the weekend, but couldn't manage to post.

Thanksgiving was nice. Aside from 6 hours in the car (not fun), I had a really good time. A couple of point about the day to bring out.

The admirable (ha) mayor of Alva, Oklahoma, Arden Chaffee, grace us with his presence just before we ate our meal. His daughter Miranda was a close friend of my little sister's growing up, and she wanted to come by and see the baby. So, they stopped in to say hi, and stayed for nearly an hour, while the food slowly grew cold and the gravy congealed. I was not amused.

My brothers and sisters and I took our regular tour of the town we grew up in, driving past all the houses we'd lived in and the schools we'd attended. That was a good time. We made fun of people we remembered from childhood and also some people we saw along the way.

When we were getting ready to leave and I was getting all the meat off the turkey so it could be divided up, my brother started making the inevitable "white meat/dark meat" jokes. My older sister figured out what he was saying and started laughing in the corner.

Then my mother, completely oblivious to the joke, says "You know I've always found white meat to be really dry, while dark meat is sooo juicy." This proved too much for me and my siblings and we collapsed in laughter. After a few moments my mother realized what she'd said and laughed at it herself.

I got home too late to watch the Apprentice and the tape I programmed to record it had not turned on. Luckily, CNBC rebroadcasts the show on Friday nights, so I got to watch it then. As much as I wished Ivana had been fired, it did mean that Kelly automatically goes into the final four, which just assures him his win.

Oh, and I'm not watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition anymore. It seems clear that the producers are just trying to make us cry more every week and I'm tired of the manipulation.

Well, that's all the news from the weekend. Perhaps something more will come to me later on...but I doubt it.

Have a great day, sports fans.

Thursday, November 25, 2004

Well, the turkey is out of its brine.

The cranberry sauce is cooling in the icebox.

And the cheese calls just received their fnial coating of pecans.

Most of my Thanksgiving prep work is done. Now all that remains is to get up at the ass crack of dawn tomorrow to drive three freaking hours to cook the damn bird.

Since my grandmother has lost it, we decided we wouldn't ask her to host Thanksgiving this year. Instead my older sister volunteered to host (only one other than my parents with room to host that many people).

So, tomorrow I sojourn to Alva, land of my youth. Such fun...I still don't know whether my brother will be riding with me or taking his own car...we both are bad passengers, not wanting to give up the driver's control. So we'll probably waste a huge amount of gas and take our own cars.

And I better get home in time for the Apprentice...

Monday, November 22, 2004

So, I was supposed to get to talk to Matt last night. And I sat up reading until about 11:30. Then I figured he must have been tired from apartment hunting yesterday and that we'd talk some other time.

So this morning I get an email from him saying he's sorry he missed me and that he did, in fact, leave me a few messages...

Hmmm, I thought, that's wierd. I checked my phone...and no messages. I got ready to e-mail him back and then decided to check the e-mail where I'd sent him my number...

..and I'd totally given him the wrong number. I have no idea who he left messages for...but I'm betting that guy is wondering who the guy is leaving him messages.

Anyway, had to share my brain fart for the masses.

Thursday, November 18, 2004

Another day off...

Started off today with an hour at the gym, followed by a nice soak in the steam. It's amazing what just a few minutes in that steam does for my skin.

Then I headed over to the mall for a little bit of shopping. Bought a new pair of shoes, only $20...those of you who don't know...I'm a big queen about shoes. I love them. I've purchased appoximately 12 pairs of shoes since May of this year and will probably buy a few more pairs before the end of the year. I normally don't go into shoe stores alone, but prefer to go in with Vi. We can normally talk each other out of unnecessary purchases, but today I was alone, and I saw the pair of buckled Skechers I've been wanting on sale and I simply couldn't resist.

Next stop was the Waldenbooks, the very one I worked in in college and after. bought a few books for X-Mas gifts and then was attracted by the buy 3 get 4th free sign on the bargain table. I went straight for the $3 cookbooks and bought my fill.

Next stop was some Chinese food for lunch, which I'll be reheating for dinner I'm sure.

Came home, read in my chair for about 4 hours and dozed for one. Now am up attempting to get all the other little things I wanted to do today, like posting here, before the Apprentice comes on at 8:00.

So, not bad for a day off...even though my incredibly sexy new boss called me on my cell to ask about a case I worked on Monday. Apparently I denied someone that I shouldn't have. So, my boss went to look for the case, but since I did all my stuff so slapdash this week, he couldn't find it. I had to direct him to the three places on my desk it could have been.

Oh well, I'm not the perfect caseworker, and I'm okay with that.

Later...

Wednesday, November 17, 2004

An Evening with Boo...

Yesterday was my parent's 36th anniversary. It was also my little sister's 3rd anniversary. So, with everyone out and about for dinner and such, I got to spend the evening with my beautiful little niece, Helen.

We had a good time. She even sat quietly and watch Law & Order: SVU rather intently.

We played, she laughed and cried and peed, had two bottles and finally spent the last part of the evening snuggled up with me while I watched the beginnings of the news. Then her mother and father came to collect her and I was able to sleep.

It was a good night.

But today is gonna be a nightmare. To continue my long weekend plans for the second week in a row, I have a stack of paperwork I MUST complete before I go home today, of my ass will have to be in the office tomorrow at 8:00 am.

So, I guess I should stop posting on my blog and get to work, huh?

Later...

Sunday, November 14, 2004

A Sex and the City Night...

So, tonight when I got off from work, I came over to Vi's house. She, Natalie and I drank wine, watched an episode of Sex and the City, and then talked about sex for a few hours.

See, Natalie is a virgin. At age 27 she is beginning to feel the urgency or getting laid. So, we mapped out a campaign about a year ago "Virgin No More in 2004".

The campaign is not going well, although she did manage to make out with her crush on Thursday night. So tonight we're doing damage control for 2005. If she makes her goal for 2004 we'll change the campaign name to "Snatch Is Alive in 2005" followed of course by "Natalie Loves Dicks in 2006."

So that's our night. We talked about what a bad gay man I am because I can't suck dick, don't get off on having it done for me and eschew all things anal because it's dirty. They don't understand it. And I can't explain it to them...otherwise I'd have the answers.

So, it's time for another episode of SATC and some more wine so we can get to round number two of the dirty talk.

Oh, and I'm highly caffeinated for the first time in three months. Had my first full strength Latte from Starbucks in forever...so I'm a little jittery...

Later...

Wednesday, November 10, 2004

Four Day Weekend

Today marks the start of my first four day weekend of the month. The office is closed tomorrow for Veterans Day so I'm taking Friday off as well to maximize my ass-sitting time at home.

Next weekend I'm taking off Thursday and Friday to attend an alumni conference at my university.

And of course, the next week is Thanksgiving...so, I'm going spending a lot of time out of the office. And I'm very excited.

Tonight I'm going to finish the first season of the Apprentice and then I have 3 all new Netflix movies to keep me occupied.

And I'm still trying to finish the books on Cambodia that I bought. It's tough reading, but I'm hoping to finish both of them this weekend so I can move on to something else.

Anyway...office hours are officially over. I'm leaving for home now...

Monday, November 08, 2004

Greek Tragedy and Traffic Jams

So yesterday I drove to Shawnee to see a production of The Orestia being put on by the OBU theater department. My brother-in-law, Lucas, had a big hand in the production. It was wonderful. Cassandra's opeing scene was just incredible.

A good time was had...

So, I started home about a quarter to five. I was going about 85 down I-40 when I suddenly got the urge to use the facilities. There's an exit about a quarter of a mile before the exit onto I-240 that has two gas station/travel stops. So I pulled off the highway and stopped in at one of the stations.

After I had concucted my business inside, I started back onto the interstate.

Traffic was at a standstill. Traffic was backed up for miles. As I inched forward I dialed my parents on my cell. They were making the same drivce back to OKC and had been ahead of me, so I wanted to mack sure they hadn't been killed in a fiery auto wreck. They were fine, but as I neared the exit to I-240, the police were making everyone exit. I saw why...there were 3 cars and a semi just blown to bits by aome high speed impact.

Although I was only about 25 minutes from home at that point, it took me another hour and a half to get home as I tried to find a direct path to another highway. (I could've taken I-240, but it loops around to the south side of OKC and I actually live north of the city.)

So, I pulled in to the driveway at aout 6:45.

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon...in traffic.

Wednesday, November 03, 2004

FUCK OKLAHOMA!

You know...I grew up in this state, and I have always intended to eventually spend my life here. I love this place. I love the pace of life, and in most cases, the people of Oklahoma are good people.

But today, over 70% of Oklahoma voters chose not to just define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, but to limit legally the rights of marriage to the legal union of a man and a woman. Not only did the people of Oklahoma offer a healthy "Fuck You!" to its gay and lesbian population, but it also told the countless number of couples out there protected by common law that their relationships were worthless in their eyes.

Yeah, Fuck You Oklahoma and your goddamn sanctimonious religious bullshit. The fucking Christians are the cause of this and I have one thing to say to them.

I may not agree with your fucked up agenda, but I have never once made a decision in the voting booth to deny you your right to live and act as you please. I may not agree with it, but you HAVE THE RIGHT TO IT AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.

And in return, you REFUSE to allow others to make decisions for themselves. You have, right now, legislated blatant discrimination into the State of Oklahoma's Constitution.

I cried tonight. By 7: 15 tonight, this election had me in tears, because the wide smiles of Amy McRee and Kelly Ogle of KWTV Channel 9 told me that they were in fact proud that Oklahoma had stepped up and defended marriage.

Well fuck you all.

I think I'd rather live elsewhere, thank you very much.
